Job Description

About Regions Refocus:

Regions Refocus is an NGO working on progressive and feminist economic policy. We build cross-regional, cross-movement solidarity in the struggle for progressive and feminist economic policy. We spark alliances and strengthen analysis to challenge the dominant, neoliberal development framework. Our work includes organizing policy workshops, coordinating collective research projects, growing advocacy coalitions, and more.

Some of our key programs of work include Post-Colonialisms Today (PCT), a research and advocacy project recovering policy insights from the early post-independence period in Africa; the Gender and Trade Coalition (GTC), a global alliance of over 300 feminist organisations advocating for trade justice; and Feminists Regenerating the Economy and the Ecosphere (FREE), a budding Global South-focused research and advocacy initiative aimed at addressing the systemic interconnections of gender and climate.

About the position:

The key objective of this role is to support coordination and implementation for FREE, including by designing research outputs and advocacy strategies, coordinating and proofreading research outputs, liaising with our allies from the Global South, and co-organizing events. Depending on your experience, the role can begin at either Coordinator or Senior Coordinator level. This is a role with significant scope for research and content production as well as policy advocacy in various multilateral fora. The content you will be drawing from and developing pulls from traditions including South feminism, Marxism, heterodox economics, and more. You will be supervised by the Research and Programs Manager of Regions Refocus. The position will start in September 2025, with an application deadline of 13 August.

What you’ll do:

Program Coordination (75%)

  • Designing research outputs and advocacy strategies for FREE, working closely with the Research and Programs Manager.
  • Coordinating research outputs, including managing collaborative writing processes, conducting independent and collaborative research, providing editorial support, and proofreading the outputs before publication.
  • Representing Regions Refocus in various multilateral fora, including COP, and engaging in policy advocacy.
  • Managing communication and convening and chairing calls with various allies from the Global South, who constitute informal and formal advisory groups.
  • Planning and coordinating events as they come up, including drafting concept notes, agendas, participant lists, and invitations.
  • Working with our Communications Coordinator to keep the website initiative page up to date with relevant content.

Institutional Support (25%)

  • Providing ad hoc drafting and editing support on grant proposals, donor reports, and talks.
  • Contributing to, and helping to shape, strategic planning conversations.
  • Supporting program development and implementation across our initiatives, including PCT and GTC.

Qualifications:

Below is a list of ideal qualifications for this role, but if you do not match all of the skills required we still encourage you to apply.

  • 2-5 years of experience working at the intersection of ecological and economic justice for progressive organizations, non-profits, political organizations, or similar. Policy analysis and/or advocacy experience is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask and switch between projects, managing work independently according to different deadlines and timelines.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to translate dense, complex technical materials into a variety of outputs for different audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of multilateralism, including different bodies within the UN and relevant policy documents.
  • Strong editing skills, including developmental, structural, and line editing.
  • Strong interest in, and knowledge of, the political economy of climate change. An understanding of the concepts of carbon debt, political ecology, just transition, green colonialism, and false solutions is essential.
  • Strong interest in, and knowledge of, global progressive and feminist politics. An understanding of global development, North-South relations, neo-colonialism, the sexual division of labor, etc. is essential. Academic experience with these concepts (through a BA, MA, etc.) is preferable.
  • Friendly demeanor and collaborative spirit, able to both give and receive feedback openly.
  • Comfortable with digital work tools including Google Drive, Microsoft Suite, etc.
  • Language abilities are desirable, especially Arabic, French, or Spanish.

Terms of employment:

This is a full-time, 40-hour a week position that can be based anywhere in the world so long as you are flexible in scheduling your hours. An overlap of at least half a day (4 hours) of working hours with EST is required. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role at this time, so a valid authorization to work in the United States is required if you plan to work out of our NYC office.

The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $80,000, depending on experience. In addition to this, all full-time employees receive a health insurance allowance to purchase coverage independently, and an allowance in lieu of retirement contributions. Employees get ten days of sick leave per year and two days of accrued leave for every calendar month worked. Additionally, we observe ten paid holidays and our office shuts down between 24 December and 2 January.

How to apply:

Please email apply@regionsrefocus.org with your resume, how you heard about the role, and,

in lieu of a cover letter, a one-page document answering the following questions:

  • How does your experience relate to this role?
  • Why do you want to work for Regions Refocus?
  • Any relevant examples or stories from your previous work (with hyperlinks if possible)

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the deadline, so candidates are encouraged to apply early.
