Job Summary

The Security Specialist reports to the Shift Security Supervisor, monitoring residents and ensuring compliance with program rules and safety standards. Responsibilities include maintaining safety, supervising resident activities, conducting rounds, maintaining logs, and responding to emergencies. The role requires mandatory overtime and working varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise residents and monitor facility activities, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Conduct resident counts, facility rounds, and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of resident sign-ins, departures, and incidents.
  • Ensure facility cleanliness and supervise resident cleaning activities.
  • Monitor resident behavior, report violations, and complete disciplinary reports.
  • Maintain detailed records of significant events.
  • Communicate effectively with residents and staff.
  • Distribute meals and dispense medication as per procedures.
  • Monitor substance abuse through urine tests and breathalyzers.
  • Control access points and prevent contraband entry.
  • Secure personal possessions and inventory when needed.
  • Report facility malfunctions and hazards.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, life-threatening situations, and policy violations.
  • Participate in resident intake and shift handovers.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions, including mandated annual training.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Represent the program professionally to the community.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, stoop, reach, lift up to 30 pounds, and operate office equipment.
  • Remain in a sitting or walking position for extended periods.
  • Work in varying temperatures and environments.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED with 2-5 years experience in human services, security, corrections, or military preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to write reports, assess behavior, and understand safety regulations.
  • Flexible to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other systems.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Additional Notes
