Job Title: Nurse Practitioner - Hematology/Oncology

Location: Bronx, NY

Schedule: M-F 8-5

Work Setting: Inpatient and Outpatient

Position Type: Direct Hire

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Hematology/Oncology team in a full-time direct hire role . In this vital position, you will work under the general supervision of the department and in close collaboration with attending physicians to provide high-quality, comprehensive care to patients facing hematologic and oncologic conditions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive medical and psychosocial assessments, histories, and physical exams.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and monitor patient progress.
  • Provide continuity of care across settings-hospital, home, skilled nursing, and hospice.
  • Supervise inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy administration; write chemotherapy orders with physician collaboration.
  • Identify, evaluate, and intervene in treatment-related toxicities and symptom management.
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and self-care.
  • Coordinate discharge planning, follow-up care, home health services, and prescriptions.
  • Provide genetic pretest counseling and psychosocial support as needed.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, PICC removals, and intrathecal chemotherapy administration.
  • Participate in hospital rounds, team huddles, case conferences, and peer reviews.
  • Adhere to OSHA standards, infection control protocols, and documentation regulations.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and resource to multidisciplinary teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Master of Science in Nursing with a Nurse Practitioner curriculum; OR
  • BSN and Master's in a health-related field plus NP certification.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • At least two (2) years of oncology experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current New York State RN and NP licenses.
  • Certification as ANP, FNP, or PNP with prescriptive privileges (NY State).
  • ANA certification in Adult or Family Practice (preferred).
  • ONC (Oncology Nursing Certification) and Chemotherapy Certification (required).

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong clinical knowledge of oncology diseases, treatments, and symptom management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and patient education skills.
  • Familiarity with New York State Practice Act, ANA standards, and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Exposure to communicable diseases, chemotherapy agents, and biohazardous waste.
  • Occasional interaction with patients in crisis or distress.
