Job Description

As a Design Engineer on the Cowling Engineering team at Mercury Marine you will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of cowling and latching systems and related components on marine outboard engines. Essential Functions include designing and analyzing Class A Cowl components, latching components, seals, and related components/systems; identifying, generating, and comparing solutions while showcasing compromises (fit and finish, cost, mass, schedule, resources, manufacturability etc); developing and executing FMEA's, DVP's, DFSS tools, facilitating failure analysis and corrective actions; presenting risk and technical issues in design for review; developing and contributing to test procedures and design standards to guide future project work; contributing to component/system test plans, writing and executing test requests; collaborating with and providing direction to CAD designers and test technicians; analyzing test data and results to inform decision making and design direction; providing support for Current Product Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve and implement solutions to technical problems; working with cross-functional teams including procurement, quality, and external suppliers to source parts; maintaining high level of engineering excellence (creativity, drawings, craftsmanship, usability, functionality, etc). Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and 1 year of experience or prior internship/co-op experience. Understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes (Sheet metal forming, Aluminum casting, injection molded plastic, molded or extruded rubber) is required. Preferred qualifications include experience with injection molded plastic processes and latch and hinge systems, knowledge of six sigma tools and application and root cause analysis, experience with use of the FMEA process, understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, ability to utilize Creo for 3D model evaluation or component analysis, and experience within Teamcenter engineering or similar PLM software/Change Release Process. The position offers a salary range of $61,400 - $98,600 annually plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
