The Life Science Research Professional 1 conducts independent experiments studying cell interactions in the retina using mouse models to understand mitochondrial dysfunction related to degenerative eye diseases. Responsibilities include experimental design, data analysis, troubleshooting methods, lab maintenance, compliance with safety guidelines, and assisting in training new staff. This role involves collaborative research in a multidisciplinary environment and requires expertise in molecular and cellular biology and experience with live mice.
A laboratory in the Genetics Department at Stanford University School of Medicine seeks a talented and energetic Life Science Research Professional 1 to investigate cell-cell interactions in the outer retina in the context of mitochondrial dysfunction through the generation and study of mouse models, with the aim of elucidating mechanisms relevant to photoreceptor degenerative diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa. The employee will independently conduct and analyze experiments to support ongoing projects in the lab and do independent projects as abilities and time allow. The employee will troubleshoot and adapt methods as necessary to achieve project goals. The position includes work with live mice. The successful applicant will become a member of a research team and must interact productively with other team members and those in nearby labs. The employee will facilitate the daily operation of the lab and help assure lab compliance with government and University guidelines regarding health and safety. This is an NIH-funded position in a collaborative, intellectually exciting and multidisciplinary environment known for research excellence. Candidates experienced with mice and molecular and cellular biology are particularly desirable.

Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Neurosciences, Biochemistry, Biology, or Developmental Biology is preferred. Experience handling mice in a laboratory setting is a plus.

The expected pay range for this position is $31.40 to $38.89 per hour.
