With 100+ locations and over 400 OB/GYNs and specialists across the country, Women’s Care provides comprehensive patient care in obstetrics, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, gynecologic pathology, breast surgery, genetic counseling, maternal fetal medicine, laboratory services, and fertility. The Genetic Counselor’s primary role is to perform clinical evaluation, testing coordination and follow-up with patients referred by a Women’s Care provider. This position also provides clinical guidance, education, and support to the laboratory genetics department and to provider offices as needed. Perform clinical evaluations in the setting of preconception, prenatal, and hereditary cancer referrals to include obtaining personal and family history information, providing risk assessment, coordinating testing (if applicable), and communicating results and recommendations to the patient and referring provider. Collaborate with maternal fetal medicine providers to provide comprehensive prenatal care in the setting of an abnormal genetic and/or sonographic finding. Recognizes and effectively communicates ethical, legal and professional issues that arise in providing care to women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy Assist with genetics education for office staff including new nurses and MAs. Maintain current genetic knowledge through CEUs. Supervision of genetic counseling students for local genetic counseling program (optional). Assist genetic lab supervisor with report prep, chart review and communication of abnormal results. Review internal policies and best practices that relate to genetic testing and hereditary risk assessment. Act as a liaison between clinical staff and both internal and external genetics laboratories Provide genetics expertise and clinical perspective for laboratory leadership to assist with decision making Demonstrates and embodies the Women’s Care mission and core values. Compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications: Masters in Genetic Counseling or equivalent Licensed to practice genetic counseling in Florida Board Certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling New grads with temporary license will be considered with 120 days to pass boards. Preferred minimum 2 years OB/GYN office or Maternal Care Unit experience. Preferred knowledge of medical office procedures, and processes (Universal precautions, infection control, risk management, etc.) Experience with eClinicalWorks preferred but must be proficient with Electronic Health Records (EHR). Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others. Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual.
