Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: To uphold the following 6 standards for school leadership: Standard 1: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. Standard 2: a school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth. Standard 3: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment. Standard 4: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by collaborating with families and community member, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources. Standard 5: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner. Standard 6: A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the cusses of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. Plans, organizes and directs implementation of all school activities. Keeps the superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems. Makes recommendations concerning the school's administration and instruction. Prepares with staff members the school site budget and monitors the expenditures of funds. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required and appropriate to the school's administration. Works with various members of the central administrative staff to solve school problems such as transportation, special services, federal and state programs, and the like. Keeps his supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor's accountability. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students. Maintains active relationships with students and parents. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business. Supervises the school's educational program. Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program. Programs classes within established guides to meet student needs. Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events. Ensures that all policies are adhered to in the management of the school's activity funds. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students. Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, through enrollment in advanced courses and the like. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel attached to the school. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff. Supervises the school's teaching process. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions. Recommends according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teacher. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes. Knows and follows school policy and the chain of command. Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment. Performs such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
