Job Title : Cloud Security Engineer

Location : Washington, DC (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite, remaining remote)

Type : Full-Time

Clearance : Active Secret Clearance required (Top Secret strongly preferred)

Overview

Improvix Technologies is seeking a skilled Cloud Security Engineer to support the Department of State’s Advanced Data Analytics (ADD) Program. This hybrid role focuses on securing AWS and Azure cloud environments, ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity standards, and implementing cutting-edge security solutions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in cloud security, risk management, and automation, along with hands-on experience in designing and implementing secure cloud infrastructures.

As part of this role, you will collaborate onsite 2-3 days a week in Washington, DC, working with multidisciplinary teams to safeguard critical systems and sensitive data.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Security Design and Implementation

• Architect and implement security controls and frameworks for AWS and Azure environments.
• Deploy Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation to ensure secure, repeatable configurations.
• Strengthen container security using Kubernetes and Docker to enhance scalability and reliability.

Security Operations and Automation

• Automate vulnerability management, compliance auditing, and incident response processes using CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor, detect, and respond to threats across cloud infrastructures using tools like GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Azure Security Center.
• Optimize Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies and implement advanced encryption strategies for data protection.

Compliance and Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with federal security standards such as NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and FISMA.
• Perform risk assessments and vulnerability scans, collaborating with compliance teams to secure Authorizations to Operate (ATO).
• Act as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing insights into cloud security risks and best practices.

Qualifications

Required

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in cloud security engineering, with expertise in AWS and Azure environments.
• Certifications: AWS Certified Security - Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer, or equivalent.
• Technical Skills:
• Hands-on experience with security tools like AWS GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Azure Security Center.
• Strong proficiency in Terraform and AWS CloudFormation for IaC.
• Expertise in container security practices using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Advanced knowledge of IAM, encryption protocols, and data protection.
  

Preferred

• Experience working for organizations providing cloud tenant solutions, such as AWS Managed Services or Azure as a Service.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including integrating security testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with federal agencies or highly regulated industries.
• Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance is strongly preferred; candidates with an active Secret clearance will be considered.
