Job Description

A stable and growing Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the Malama I Ke Ola Health Center (Malama) AKA the Community Clinic of Maui, has pioneered many innovative healthcare, whole-person care and advocacy programs serving, diverse populations on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.

This health center is recruiting its next Chief Medical Officer.

THE POSITION

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), is a key strategic leader and member of the executive team of Malama I Ke Ola Health Center. The CMO will grow organizational capacity to meet current healthcare trends, the needs of the community of Maui, and regulatory requirements of the state and federal government. In addition to managing the clinical function, this key leader will provide complete, comprehensive, and trauma-informed outpatient medical care to an assigned panel of patients.

THE PERSON

Motivated by an inquisitive nature, the successful CMO Candidate has an innovative, collaborative and humane mindset that infuses their approach towards their work with the Board of Directors, Leadership, Clinical teams, other staff and external partners.

The CMO believes everyone deserves to be healthy and needs access to the highest quality health care, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. This key executive will be committed to serving these communities. They are not afraid of challenges and readily contribute to team problem solving and have a roll up your sleeves attitude when facing complex problems.

The CMO enjoys educating non-clinical health center colleagues, board members and other lay audiences on complicated topics involving epidemiology, statistics, population and public health and quality improvement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Licensure:
    Graduate of an accredited school of allopathic or osteopathic medicine - ie, holds MD, DO or equivalent degree. Current license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
    Must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine due to the following strategic considerations:
    • the majority of medical patients served by the clinic are adults with chronic illness
    • the majority of clinical outcomes and process improvement expectations focused on by HRSA are based on adults with chronic illness
    • payment transformation and value based care expectations by health plans are largely focused on adults with chronic illnesses
  • Experience:
    • At least five years clinical experience and three years management experience, preferably in FQHCs.
  • Skills/Competencies:
    • Electronic Health Records competence
    • Ability to perform a dual role as both a C-Suite Chief Medical Officer at 50% and an Adult Medical Provider serving patients at 50%.
